Keep Maine Scenic

We ran by this sign on the side of a tractor-trailor up in the Perry area along Route One this past August during our annual camping trip Downeast. A message that we can all take to heart, but the delivery had something to be desired. Left in what appeared to be a deserted, dirt business lot, it simply struck us as an oxymoron.

Ah, yes, it's abandoned, much like the "Keep Maine Scenic" campaign which started sometimes in the '60's and was dissolved around 1980. I'd love to find out more about it. I'm a scout leader in Kennebec County and Tidy the Raccoon would make a great character on a scout patch. Thanks for sharing. I saw this with my wife over Labor Day Weekend, but we didn't bother to stop to take pictures.
